Asafa Signs with Cable & Wireless Jamaica

July 27, 3005

The world’s fastest man, Asafa Powell is sprinting in a new arena having inked a deal to endorse Cable & Wireless Jamaica’s (CWJ) High Speed Internet Service.

The 100m world record holder will be at the forefront of the marketing campaign which is accompanying CWJ’s recent roll out of high speed Internet service packages.

Powell will appear in newspaper, television and Internet advertisements to promote the service. Additionally, his image will be used for billboards, posters, brochures and other printed material. He will also make guest appearances at official CWJ functions and other special events.

The agreement also makes provisions for the establishment of the Asafa Powell Foundation, a charitable organisation which will be run by the sprinter’s management team. Subscribers to CWJ’s High Speed Internet Service will have the option to contribute to the Foundation when signing up for the service.

Magnus Johansson, CWJ’s Vice President, Broadband says he is elated to have Powell as part of his team. “Asafa is an exceptionally talented athlete who has distinguished himself by staying a step ahead of the competition in much the same way that Cable & Wireless Jamaica intends to always be ahead of the rest of the market with the high speed internet service we provide.”

He added, “CWJ hopes to have a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Asafa and, like the rest of Jamaica, we are fully behind him and we hope he stays healthy and has a long and successful career.”
