July 10, 2005
Cable & Wireless Jamaica’s highly successful annual Horizon technology show officially opened this morning at the National Arena.
Thirty-two exhibitors representing industry leaders in Jamaica, the Caribbean and North America, including Nortel Networks, Research in Motion, Avaya, National Commercial Bank and the Bank of Nova Scotia will showcase cutting-edge telecommunications-based solutions and services at the three-day event.
Horizon 2005 will feature an even wider array of telecommunications and information and communications technology solutions geared to businesses and personal users and across various age groups, than in previous years. The exposition will also provide opportunities for registered participants to benefit from free workshops to be hosted by representatives of leading international technology developers, who will be among exhibitors at the event.
Two exciting additions to the Horizon offering this year are Youth Horizon and the Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Forum. Youth Horizon targets young people up to age 21 and will demonstrate for them how technology may be applied to their everyday lives. Youth Horizon exhibitors include the Cable & Wireless Jamaica Foundation, Homework Jamaica, bmobile, The Gleaner Company’s Youth Link, National Commercial Bank and the Bank of Nova Scotia.
The second new addition -- The Chief Information Officer’s (CIO) Forum, is designed to help CIO’s prepare for the demands of tomorrow. The forum will explore the changing nature of the role of the CIO - especially its growing impact on strategic decision making. Several local and international industry leaders and government officials will make presentations at this Forum.
The Horizon showcase has developed an enviable reputation in the regional and hemispheric telecommunications marketplace as a unique opportunity, not only for showcasing cutting edge solutions and services, but also for facilitating contacts and contracts between suppliers and customers. The growing popularity of the event has been a critical driver in the decision to move the exposition to its new venue.
According to Errol Miller, CWJ’s Vice President for Corporate Communications: “One advantage the new venue gives us is that we will be better able to accommodate more of the various interests that have been expressed by exhibitors and visitors to previous Horizon shows. At any rate we simply had to respond to the growing number of visitors and exhibitors and the National Arena should prove much more amenable in this regard.’
Some 15, 000 visitors are expected to attend Horizon 2005 which closes on Tuesday, July 12.
In addition to showcasing the latest in information technology, telecommunications hardware and software applications, Cable & Wireless will offer visitors to Horizon 2005, significant discounts on select b mobile, data and business services.
