Cable & Wireless Jamaica is moving to simplify its rate structure for billing calls made within Jamaica. To this end the company has submitted a proposal to the Office of Utilities Regulation for the introduction of a Single National Rate for local calls.
The Cable & Wireless proposal seeks to introduce a Single National Rate for domestic calls made during peak, weekday hours and a significantly lower rate for calls made evenings/nights and weekends. It will result in the elimination of intra- and inter- parish calling rates.
Evan Garricks, CWJ’s Senior Vice President for Retail and Residential Services says; ‘Fixed line to fixed line calling remains the cheapest means of communication in Jamaica today - by far, and the Single National Rate removes any boundaries. It also clears the way for several exciting new initiatives that we at Cable & Wireless will be launching to reinforce the value, reliability and convenience of fixed line services for Jamaican businesses and consumers’.
The company expects that subject to clearance by the regulators, the Single National Rate will come into effect on October 1.
